Week in Sports(10/28-11/3): Nashua teams clash in multiple competitions

NASHUA, NH – Now that the high school football regular season wrapped up last week, the postseason is now fully underway for football, soccer and volleyball around the Granite State. While several Nashua squads have already been eliminated, a handful play on, and a big football clash has been set for this weekend. Here’s the latest:


Football

Nashua South 6, Goffstown 14 (11/1/24)

The Nashua High School South football team fell in their final regular season test, 14-6, at home to Goffstown on Friday to enter the postseason on a two-game losing streak after winning the first seven contests of the season.

The sixth-ranked Purple Panthers now head to the playoffs where they’ll face cross-city rival and 11th-ranked Bishop Guertin, in the first round of the Division-I tournament Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Nashua North 7, Canisius (NY) 48 (11/2/24)

Traveling to Canisius, New York on Saturday, the Nashua North football team had a long bus ride home after suffering a 48-7 defeat in the final game of the regular season. The Titans, who finished the regular season with a 2-6 record in New Hampshire play (2-7 overall), did not reach the postseason.

Bishop Guertin 21, Merrimack 34 (11/01/24)

The Cardinals dropped their second-straight game, falling at Merrimack, 34-21, to end the regular season with a 5-4 record.

BG now advances to the D-I postseason tournament where it faces familiar foe Nashua South – who the Cardinals lost to, 21-15, in the regular-season opener on Sept. 7 – Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at Souhegan High School.


Girls Soccer

Division-I tournament first round

No. 8 Nashua North 2, No. 9 Nashua South 1 (10/29/24)

It took overtime to decide the fate of Nashua’s two public high school girls soccer teams when they opened the playoffs last Tuesday, and it was Nashua High School North that advanced to the quarterfinals, scoring the game winner off a free kick with five minutes remaining in the extra frame. Division-I tournament quarterfinals

No. 8 Nashua North 2, No. 1 Bishop Guertin 1 (11/1/24)

The Bishop Guertin girls soccer team had only lost once all regular season, however, the Cardinals were one-and-done in the D-I tournament after being knocked out of the playoffs by cross-city foe Nashua North in a contest that came down to a dramatic shootout on Friday.

The Titans advanced to the D-I semis where they’ll face fourth-ranked Winnacunnet tonight at 6:15 at Manchester Memorial High School.


Boys Soccer

Division-I tournament first round

No. 9 Nashua South 0, No. 8 Pinkerton 2 (10/30/24)

The Purple Panthers completed the regular season with a 7-5-4 record to reach the postseason. There they were felled in the first round by eighth-ranked Pinkerton.

No. 14 Nashua North 3, No. 3 Londonderry 2 (10/30/24)

After a 5-7-4 regular season that saw the Titans sneak into into the playoffs as the 14th seed, they traveled Londonderry and pulled off a significant first-round upset against the third-ranked Lancers to reach the D-I quarterfinals.

No. 14 Nashua North 0, No. 6 Keene 1 (11/2/24)

Following their big first-round upset, the Titans postseason run came to an end in the D-I quarterfinals when they fell on the road at sixth-ranked Keene, 1-0. Read more.


Volleyball

No. 4 Bishop Guertin 3, No. 13 Portsmouth 0 (10/31/24)

No. 4 Bishop Guertin 3, No. 12 Concord 1 (11/2/24)

The Bishop Guertin girls volleyball team entered the postseason as the No. 4 seed after a 14-4 regular season and opened the Division-I tournament with a 3-0 home victory over No. 13 Portsmouth on Oct. 31. Two days later, they hosted No. 12 Concord and calmed the Crimson Tide with a 3-1 victory.

The Cardinals now advance to the D-I semifinals, hosted at Pinkerton Academy, where they’ll face top-seed Bedford at 6:30 p.m.
