NASHUA, NH – Stepping Stones in Nashua permanently closed on April 9.
Currently, the youth who were sheltered at the facility are safe and still have shelter at the facility and staff is still in the building. A meeting with former Stepping Stones leadership and local organizations is set to take place to determine what the next steps for them will be.
“I understand this will be an adjustment for everyone and this is very unfortunate news, as Stepping Stones does amazing work to help Nashua’s community of displaced youth,” said Sarah Aissis, of the city’s Division of Public Health & Community Services.
“At this time, the City of Nashua and local organizations are communicating to figure out next steps for the individuals being impacted by the closing of Stepping Stones,” Aissis said.
The facility was advised to close after losing all board members and many staff.
A source involved with the non-profit told the Ink Link that internal turmoil and “unfair treatment” among leadership led to some leaving, and that the Department of Justice could potentially become involved.
Any youth who need to pick up belongings from the facility can call the drop-in center at (603)-787-3016 or email [email protected].
