TYNGSBOROUGH, MA — Concord High scored three unanswered goals in the third period to pull away from Bishop Guertin, 5-1, Saturday afternoon at Skate3 Arena.
Junior Tyler Morin had a pair of goals to lead the Crimson Tide, which remains unbeaten (7-0-0) atop the Division I standings.
The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for Bishop Guertin (4-3-0).

Morin’s first goal came on the power play with 1:24 to play in the second period and snapped a 1-1 tie. Sitting alone on the doorstep, Morin was set up by a perfect centering pass by Rowan Arndt.
Noah Cordeiro had the lone goal for Bishop Guertin, a shorthanded gem that gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead, 1:32 into the second period.
But the story of the game was Bishop Guertin’s missed opportunities in the first period. The Cardinals played an aggressive first 15 minutes, finishing their checks and pressing the attack on the offensive end.
Despite several excellent scoring chances, BG came up empty against Concord freshman goalie Carter Heise (26 saves).
”In that first period, it could have been 3-0,” said BG Head Coach Gary Bishop. “We missed an open net, we hit a couple of posts. But coulda, shoulda, woulda.”
During one 20-second stretch, Bishop Guertin center James Mantone cleanly won three straight face-offs, giving Cordeiro the same shot all three times. His first bid sailed over the net, the next was saved and the third clanged off the post.
Missed scoring chances are always costly against a team that plays the type of tight defense Concord does. Through seven games, the Crimson Tide has allowed just 11 goals.

As the second period wore on, Bishop Guertin skaters began to lose a step and Concord began carrying the play, winning puck battles and claiming space in front of the net.
Trailing 1-0, Concord answered midway through the second period, when freshman Nolan Walsh snapped a wrist shot over the shoulder of BG goalie Connor Hayes (30 saves).
Walsh’s goal marked a noticeable momentum swing and Morin’s go-ahead power play goal later in the period sapped what energy was left from the Cardinals.
”In that second period, we started backing off. We weren’t getting after the puck,” said Bishop. “Even on the defensive end. We weren’t meeting them at the blue (line), we were sagging, falling back.”

The third period was all Concord. Freshman Austin Proulx pushed the lead to 3-1, four minutes into the period, converting a sensational backhand centering pass Jaden Haas from behind the BG net.
Morin and senior Cam Chardonnet tacked on insurance goals midway through the period.
Bishop Guertin will look to rebound Wednesday (6:25 p.m.) on the road at Keene High.
