MANCHESTER, NH – The Nashua North High School field hockey team traveled to Manchester Wednesday without a win and they returned without a win, but this season is about so much more than results on the field, said North head coach Kat Previte.
“Record-wise, right, you want to win, I get that, but … we’re getting shots on goal, we’re moving it up the field, so wins don’t matter, it’s more about them learning the game and growing,” she said.
So despite carrying an 0-15 record into their final game, following a 4-2 loss to Manchester Memorial/Central Wednesday, Previte lauded the effort and attitudes of her players in the most recent contest.
Privite said despite being one of the largest schools in D-I, experience can be an issue at times when competing in Division I.
“I think its the difference between geographical areas, who can afford to play all year round and who can’t,” said Previte, “so for us, it’s really about building up the program and getting more kids involved.”
Part of that effort, she said, includes partnering with Nashua South to help build youth programs and host field hockey clinics in town to generate additional interest.
In the interim, the Titans look to end the current campaign on a high note as they enter the final game of the season against 5-10 Londonderry today (Friday) at 4 p.m.
Of course, win or lose, Prvite said she’s proud of her team’s progress this season.
