THE SOAPBOX

Stand up. Speak up. It’s your turn.
We’ve followed all the advice to keep our Social Security numbers out of the hands of scammers, but now the Trump Supreme Court has given Elon Musk’s DOGE hackers legal access to them and so much more. The vault has been breached; our financial privacy is a thing of the past.
There are still things we can do to help secure our personal liberty and financial stability, though. First, we insist to our U.S. Senators and Representatives that “go along to get along” time is over. They must be a bulwark against the Big Ugly Budget Bill that would shred Social Security, Medicaid, food and housing assistance, and every public agency to pay for billionaires’ big, juicy tax cuts.
In NH, we must demand a state budget that protects public schools, health, infrastructure, safety, and our ability to monitor those benefitting from our tax dollars. The NH GOP is currently run by out-of-state Free Staters who are intent on gutting all those programs to pay for school vouchers and favors to their wealthy donors.
The NH Liberty Alliance, a dark-money PAC financed by TX billionaires, funds the FSP movement. Its “liberty ratings,” published at www.libertyalliance.orgassign grades to legislators based on their loyalty to the Free State agenda. Nashua’s Senator Avard, for example, has a B+ rating, voting with Free Staters over 80% of the time. Knowledge is power. Let’s use it to make sure our legislators represent us and not the FSP.
Jean Lewandowski lives in Nashua.
