After all the ads, text messages, rallies, and knocks on the door Nashua residents finally are heading to their local Wards to cast their vote. With interest in this election so high turnout is expected to be at record high levels. The crowds so far have been amiable and there is no sign of the levels of animosity that have plagued some campaigns.

The Democratic party leadership gathered in Manchester on Monday afternoon for the last time in this year’s election cycle.  Elected officials, candidates, party officials, and a standing-room-only crowd of volunteers filled the Manchester Harris-Walz campaign office for the last time before voting starts on Tuesday.

Vance referred to the border crisis and immigrants multiple times. He claimed Harris has and will “roll out the red carpet for illegal aliens” and provide them with Social Security and Medicaid.  He also blamed “them” for high housing costs. His thesis is immigration has an outsized impact on NH.

“Ladies and gentlemen, New Hampshire schools are overcrowded with children who don’t even speak English, which deprives our kids, deprives our kids of good education. New Hampshire hospitals are overwhelmed, emergency room wait times have skyrocketed. We’ve got people in this state who do not have a legal right to be here, said the Senator. I believe that we are compassionate people, and we are always going to be a compassionate country. But the compassion of the American president belongs with the American people who have the right to be here.

Clinton has a long history with Granite State and New Hampshire’s democratic party establishment.  His 1992 NH Primary race earned him the “Comeback Kid” nickname and began decades-long friendships. US  Senator Jeanne Shaheen and her husband Billie are two friends in attendance.  The Senator kicked off the slate of speeches.

Senator Hassan continued with the theme of doing the work of elections to make a difference.

“Here’s a number that a lot of people in this room have heard me say a time or two, which is 1,017 votes. That’s the number of votes that you all helped me win my first election for the United States Senate by, right?  1,017 votes is what made the difference between being able to stop the Republicans in 2017 when they tried to repeal the Affordable Care Act. 1,017 votes in New Hampshire saved health care for 28 million Americans.”

The group’s Executive director Brenda Lett and Minister Ray Ealy hosted the event at the Nashua church. The event was geared toward first-time voters and new Americans.  The event was streamed online for a home audience and a translator was available for non-English speakers.

“Today’s event is the first voter information event we’ve run. This actually is my church. And Ray Ealy is one of our pastors. He mentioned at church one day that we should have a town hall. And that’s why we’re here today. That is one of the things that the health project does,” said Lett.
