NASHUA, NH – For some, the postseason has already started. Others are making one last regular season push toward the playoffs, while a couple Gate City teams are playing for pride and improvement. Here’s a glance at how Nashua student athletes have fared over the past seven days.
Girls tennis
In tennis, some say matchups are everything, and that certainly seemed to prove true in the opening round of the NHIAA Division-I girls tennis tournament. There, sixth-ranked Nashua North earned a 6-3 victory over No. 11 Salem to advance to the tourney quarterfinals, while across town, seventh-ranked Nashua South fell by the same score to No. 10 Keene.
South next plays at third-seeded Hanover at 4 p.m. today, while fifth-ranked Bishop Guertin, which earned a first-round bye, treks to Derry to face No. 4 Pinkerton at 3 p.m.

Boys tennis
The two Nashua teams that made the NHIAA Division-I boys tennis tournament squared off in the first round Tuesday. There, seventh-ranked Bishop Guertin earned a 9-0 victory over tenth-seeded Nashua North. The Cardinals advanced to the D-I quarterfinals where they fell to second-ranked Bedford, 8-1, on Thursday.
