
LITCHFIELD, NH — A several-hour manhunt that started in Hudson and led police on a pursuit into Litchfield caused schools in the area to go into lockdown and ultimately resulted in an arrest.
Nicholas Maynard faces multiple charges in Hudson and Litchfield in the aftermath of an ordeal that started with a report of a possible impaired driver in Hudson.
Police there responded to the call and found that the vehicle in question had fled the area and entered Litchfield on Route 3A. The driver, later identified as Maynard, continued to elude police and hit a Litchfield cruiser in a neighborhood where police saw him parked. The driver sped off and the vehicle was eventually located crashed behind LKQ Automotive on 3A. Maynard was not with the vehicle and had fled into the woods.
Police from Litchfield, Hudson, Merrimack, Manchester, the NH State Police troopers, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office searched the area on foot using police K-9s and multiple drones.
The search was taking place near St. Francis of Assisi School, which was placed in lockdown while law enforcement searched the area.
After more than two hours, police received a call from Romano’s Pizza saying that a person had come into the restaurant looking for water and had shed some of his clothes.
Before police arrived, Maynard fled to Morgan Road, where police and sheriffs took him into custody.
