Egyptian food festival this weekend: Get your kebab on!

Saint Mary and Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church in Nashua are holding their annual Egyptian Food Festival this weekend, held under a giant tent In the parking lot next to one of Nashua’s Architectural treasures on 39  Chandler Street.


This is the seventh year of the festival, including food, music, art kids’ activities, and church tours. The festival begins on Friday evening and continues on Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm and Sunday from noon to 6 pm. The church has been operating in Nashua for 16 years at the site of the former Saint Francis church.

Father Kyrillos Gobran is the parish priest for the more than 250 family congregation. He wholeheartedly welcomes area residents to come to the festival and experience Egyptian food and culture 

“It is a great way for the community to get together while the weather is good and everybody is back from vacations and school has started.  We try to get everyone together before winter hits,” said Father Gobran

Father Gobran’s favorite item to eat is the shish kebab with the shawarma running a close second. Beyond the entrees is a huge assortment of desserts and sweets to choose from. 

“Every day of the festival I get to try different things,” said Gobran, and noted visitors can come each day to get the complete experience.

In addition to serving up delicious food, the festival is a chance to introduce Nashua to the church and its community. “To get people to know who we are  To be part of the greater Nashua Community,” said Father Gobran, Food brings people together!”
