Veterans Promise, a Nashua nonprofit that supports area veterans, hosted a Christmas Eve dinner for the residents of Dalainas House. The residential apartment complex provides temporary housing and support for about 40 veterans on the path back to self-sufficiency.
They need some extra help this year and are seeking donations of Christmas decorations to “deck the halls”.
At the top of their wish list are garlands, wreaths, and ornaments. They have plenty of lights but their inventory of ornaments was accidentally disposed of this year so those are a top priority.
The group is seeking gift card donations, especially from local businesses to distribute to vets for the holidays. Amounts of $25, $50 and $75 will be graciously accepted.

“The defendant is a recidivist fraudster who used a sophisticated scheme to steal money intended to help vulnerable veterans,” said U.S. Attorney Young. “He spent the stolen money on items like a cruise, landscaping at his home and OnlyFans.com. His brazen criminal conduct was compounded by the fact that he stole from a program dedicated to preventing veteran suicides. Today’s sentence should be a warning to others that stealing from veterans will not be tolerated and will result in incarceration.”
With a proven track record of serving over 5,000 individuals annually, Harbor Care is deepening its commitment to ending veteran homelessness.
They were married in February 1968 and honeymooned on a three-day weekend in New York City. Their premonitions about the Army were correct. Returning to Nashua, Kerouac found his draft notice. He had only a few days to report to Fort Dix for basic training. He closed his pizza shop although his father was able to pay the rent on the building until he returned. It was a great location with good visibility and high traffic count that he didn’t want to lose. With the lock on the door, Kerouac was off to basic training.
“Some PTSD sufferers are living without insurance,” said Alissa Dillon, a counselor at TSTS. “Others are simply looking for privacy during their treatment, as it can be very difficult to open up to loved ones about PTSD.”
As of this writing in June, 2024, Arthur Gamache is 90 years old. His memories of his time in the military, 5th Army, 5th Division is rather hazy. Of these times, he speaks rather hesitatingly. “It was a long time ago” he notes.
