After a nearly four-hour long public hearing – with mostly opposition – the Board of Aldermen (BOA) voted Monday to table resolution R-25-121.
“The first thing that people need to understand is that when you freeze federal funding, the ripple effect is huge,” said Sen. Maggie Hassan.
The resolution proposes an amendment to the city charter by deleting certain sections and adding another to establish a limitation on annual budgets.

CTAB board chairman Andrew Cernota described the goal of the hearing as, “We are looking primarily for feedback on how that incumbent has fulfilled their responsibilities under the current contract. To assess in particular their efforts at community outreach, how accessible they’ve been for producers and for members of the public who have questions about public access. We’re looking for information about how public access is utilized under their incumbency and generally how they perform under the contract.”
The Board of Aldermen approved an ordinance Tuesday night continuing extended outdoor dining, but with some changes.
Pete Johnson, NCTV’s education channel access director said, “We’re making progress, at least for what’s going to happen for this fiscal year. We and the city have to make some decisions as to what’s going to happen in the long term…”
