The Board of Aldermen tabled legislation that would authorize the city to acquire land by eminent domain for the Riverfront Project (R-24-109), and another that would allow for the appropriation of more than $5 million for various capital improvement projects, including the commuter rail study (R-24-115).

As elected aldermen, we’ve had the privilege of serving Nashua through both its triumphs and its challenges. Recently, our city has hit a rough patch that has left many residents frustrated and searching for answers. From surprise property revaluations to school busing issues and the abrupt closure of Stellos Stadium, it’s been challenging. As leaders, we need to address these concerns and take ownership where necessary, and ensure better communication and accountability.

“We never had an official communication to the board that this was going on,” Alderman Gouveia said. “I feel we could have just done better educating the public and we could have done better easing everybody on what the long-term plan was here.I just feel there was a big lack of communication and that hurt for a lot of people.”

According to the school district’s athletic director Lisa Gingras, the decision to close was a collaborative decision between herself, the superintendent of Parks and Recreation, and the athletic director at Bishop Guertin. After noticing that the field was deteriorating, they had an inspector from Firefly Sports Testing inspect the field last week.

If approved, the resolution would exempt the total debt service principal and interest payment of municipal bonds appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2025 budget. This would increase the available budget under the cap so that approximately $33 million worth of projects could be appropriated.
