NASHUA, NH – Lisa Fauteux, director of the Department of Public Works, and members of the senior management team went before the Ad Hoc Capital/Debt Committee Monday night to present their projects in need of capital funding.
After hearing presentations from various departments and entities requesting funding – such as the Nashua Public Library, Public Health and Community Services, and the Nashua School District, who presented previously – the committee will review and prioritize the waiting capital projects.
Public Works projects include phase two of their consolidation project, a truck wash, and maintenance to Greeley Park and Holman Stadium.
Fauteux explained that the consolidation of Public Works is a two-phase project. The first phase – to design and build an office building that would accommodate Administration, Engineering, Solid Waste, and Parks and Recreation – is complete.
Phase two is the designing and building of a garage to maintain and store equipment and supplies, adding an additional break room and locker rooms to accommodate all staff.
“The current DPW garage was built in 1978,” Fauteux said. “The division has outgrown it and it’s really passed its useful life.”
The department is also asking for a truck wash for $1.5 million to be used citywide to remove corrosive materials from vehicles and equipment, and $1.3 million for Greeley Park.
“The stone house [at Greeley Park] right now is badly in need of a new roof,” Fauteux said. “It is in danger of collapsing under snow load so that is very critical.”
Other needs at Greeley Park include the replacement of the wading pool, work on the band shell and repairs to the playground.
$7 million was requested for work at Holman Stadium. Most dire is the need to replace the light poles, one of which is leaning.
Other needs include upgraded locker rooms, HVAC system repairs, replacement of the maintenance building and field renovation.
The next Ad Hoc Capital/Debt Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m.
