I'm not one to make excuses but forgive me if I haven't yet sorted out the implications of my looming birthday, two weeks and a day away. It's the kind of birthday that will entitle me to things like free stuff for old people including healthcare services - free in the sense that the government will subtract some amount from my monthly sustenance check. That's a little less cat food in the budget for me and Bella, if you know what I mean.
Thing is, every time I get a piece of mail about Medicare, which is pretty much 10 pieces of mail a day at this point, I put it into a "read sooner than later pile," and then Bella finds the pile and either chews the edges making confetti everywhere, or just sits on it so that I can't access it. She enjoys sitting on paper and who am I to move her?
Anyway, I got a piece of mail from an insurance guy in Amherst who somehow knew my birthday was coming. He did not send a greeting card or enclose a gift card to my favorite local store, but he did send me a color-coded graph of numbers and providers for drug plan options and Medicare Advantage plans that seems helpful but I still am not sure what it all means.
I'll hold onto it in case anyone needs colorful confetti.

Jim says the key is to get healthy so that we don't need health care, which he says is really "sick care," which means healthy people don't have to worry about how they're going to pay for a lengthy hospital stay or emergency surgery on their failing organs, riddled with fat and disease, mostly from aging.
He's so idealistic. Also, he may be on to something.
Sounds easier than moving Bella off the pile.

The forecast is mostly sunny with windy and cooler conditions. The presence of gusty winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation significantly increases the risk of brush fires. The high will be 49 degrees, feeling more like 39, with northwest winds at 20-30+ mph.
