PUBLISHER'S CORNER

Not everyone recognizes Chopin's Prelude in C Minor when the opening chords of Barry Manilow's "Could It Be Magic" comes on the radio, but that is the only thing I heard when, at 12, that song played on my little hand-held transistor that went with me everywhere.

My piano teacher, Mr. Pocrass, had given me that tune to work on, and the chord progression, to me, was full of longing. That is what makes it one of my all-time favorite Barry Manilow tunes and so I'm sure when he sings it tonight at Radio City Music Hall I will be the old lady in the orchestra section dabbing my eyes with a Kleenex.

My son the New York City teacher, Neil, won a pair of tickets to the show and invited me. I think we will have a blast dancing to Copacabana and swaying to Mandy.

And if nothing else, I expect to feel gratitude to this particular piano man, who took a classical masterpiece and made it his own - and then gave it to the rest of us to hold in our hearts, along with his entire catalogue that - admit it - contributed to the soundtrack of your life, too.
