For many, yesterday's late-breaking news from the Conservation Law Foundation, that Newport Construction Corporation has reportedly scrapped their plan to build an asphalt plant on Temple Street, was welcome. The power, in this instance, was with the people who stood their ground to say this was not something they wanted.

This is how it's supposed to work in a community. It's not to say that there shouldn't be commerce or new factories, or progress; it just means that it's up to the people who live in a community to care, to stand up if necessary, to be heard.
