PUBLISHER'S CORNER

It's hard to believe that there are new things to learn at this stage of my life, and yet here I am, learning new things. For instance, I noticed for the first time in my life a pod growing from my spent Irises. I thought there was just one, at first, and that it was an anomaly. But then I noticed a few more and so I, of course, Googled it. Turns out Irises can grow from rhizomes - tubular roots that are planted sort of horizontally, which is what I know; and seed pods, which I didn't.

The seed pods are the result of polination, according to what I read, and if I leave them alone until they turn brown I can harvest the seeds and store them for up to 18 years (which is a very specific amount of time). (Nice to know, but I will not wait that long). (Although I could put some in a time capsule and leave it for my kids to discover).

Anyway, I'm excited to see what happens when I plant them. Nature is pretty amazing.
